Where is Spark PA located?
We run all of our programs and classes on our 6 acre piece of property in Kunkletown, Pennsylvania in the Poconos. We have an amazing art studio, known as the Alappat Atelier, where all Spark classes are held. This is Sebastian Alappat’s working art studio and it is covered artwork that he has made over the years. Now, it is also home to the Spark PA studio. Kids love to walk in and see the massive fossilized dinosaur pieces, the entire Alice in Wonderland section and all of the comic book art. There is a separate waiting area for parents and two bathrooms available for parents and kids.
Pennsylvania Story
Hi! We are Sebastian & Amanda, the power couple behind SPARK PA. We lived in NYC together since 2011 but in 2017 after the birth of our first child Arya, we bought our dream home, a century-old barn house in the heart of the Poconos that Sebastian had visited with his oldest friends. We knew we had found our forever home and the Barn became a place that we enjoyed on weekends away from the city and also rented out as an Airbnb. Additionally, we hosted our signature art, yoga and adventure retreats for adults on the grounds.
We started to feel the deep call to be in nature and to live more closely with the land. We were craving trees and wide open spaces and although our apartment did have an incredible backyard, we still longed for more. We wanted our kids to have the freedom to climb trees, to run barefoot, to garden and live in closer alignment with the seasons.
After riding out the pandemic, we decided to make the jump to the country. The property also had an art studio on the land which is not only Sebastian’s personal studio but also the perfect place for a new SPARK location. It’s been two years and we are so happy to have made such a massive life change to bring this program to children locally.
We have since had our third child and created another project as a result of our new life: SPARK Nature. After a run-in with a bear, it became increasingly obvious that we were called to weave a nature element into our offerings. While it’s always been in the backdrop, nature has never been front and center but with the launch of our forest school run on this land, that’s all about to change.
We are extremely committed to reconnecting children with the natural world to help them remember the magic, beauty, and power of this great earth. This land serves as a peaceful sanctuary for children to have direct experience with nature, with trails, a stream, a bamboo forest, a playground, and even a zen garden. It is the ideal place for outdoor learning and beautifully complements both the artistic and mindfulness aspects of our other offerings.
We truly believe SPARK is incredibly unique and fundamentally holistic and so necessary in today’s world, meeting the child on many levels with yoga for their physical bodies, meditation for their growing minds, art for soulful self-expression, and nature for the cultivation of their inner spirits.
It is truly such a gift to be living here and we are deeply and forever grateful.
Spark Nature - Forest School
Our Forest School connects children with the magic of nature. We believe that unstructured, imaginative play outdoors is essential for their well-being. Let’s nurture their connection with the Earth and watch them thrive!
What makes Spark PA unique?
This is the only program of its kind to combine art, yoga, meditation and nature for a holistic and wholesome approach to teaching children. All offerings are held at a real working art studio and beautiful maintained property that is itself a work of art.
The two main teachers are husband and wife team, Sebastian Alappat, who founded the company over ten years ago and his wife, Amanda, who has been with Spark since day 1. No one cares quite like the owners do!

Posted on Jenny Cheng My 5 year old daughter loved Spark art camp! The day activity and the curriculum are so well designed, and the teaching artists each week are all so caring and fun. My daughter had so so much fun everyday! She’s been bringing home more art ideas with various medium explorations, and she loves showing me all these yoga poses she’s learned. Thank you Sebastian again for hosting such an amazing art camp!Posted on Vanessa Villanueva Ilagan Desperate to find an Art Portfolio class after a thorough search in the web, we came across SPARK. We were late in enrolling our daughter however, the staff and owner were very courteous and are extremely helpful in navigating this experience. This greatly helped my daughter put in the work! We highly recommend SPARK! If it were not for SPARK, my daughter would not have been accepted to her HS of choice.Posted on Jovana Skoro Sebastian and his team, particularly Joel, did an amazing job helping guide my daughter with her work on her portfolio pieces. She learned many new techniques and explored various mediums. They challenged her to step outside of her comfort zone and provided extra attention and time, when she needed it the most. The studio space is warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this program (she got an acceptance from her top choice school!)Posted on Andrew Weinman I have three children ranging in age from 7 to 16 and all three have taken virtual classes with SPARK. My 16-year old has been taking private animation lessons with Joel for several months now and she absolutely loves it. She looks forward to the lessons every week. Joel is incredibly thoughtful and well prepared and provides us with a recap of each lesson. He is also helping our daughter with her portfolio through SPARK's portfolio review program and it has been so helpful. The SPARK team is always well prepared and the lessons are great. Plus, the team members are all artists so they understand the way my children think about art. Thank you so much!Posted on Milky Gomez We recently celebrated our daughter's 9th birthday at Spark and had a wonderful time! Jonathan was very artistic, attentive and kept the children entertained and engaged at all times. We added face painting to our party and Maddy, the face painter, was exceptionally creative and very sweet/kid-friendly. My daughters had so much fun that now they are interested in taking art lessons at Spark! Thank you Sebastian, Jonathan and Maddy for making it a memorable experience!Posted on Zuri Placencia Both my daughters attended Spark summer camp. They had such a fantastic time! Every day, they would wake up and be so excited to go to camp! They also never wanted to leave camp when we would go pick them up. They’ve learned so much in such a short time. Spark offered everything I’ve wanted them to be a part of in one place. The yoga, meditation, learning different art techniques and their background. Thank you for all that you do! Looking forward to continuing to be a part of Spark family!Posted on Diana Levy Moldovan Amazing summer camp and after-school program!Posted on Anna Raczka My 15 year old daughter attended the camp this summer. She was hesitant before going but when she got home she couldn't stop talking how much fun it was. She loves art, mostly drawing and felt it was very relaxed and fun but at the same structured enough for her to feel like she knew which direction to go on her projects. She was excited about doing some drawings while visiting interesting places in the neighborhood and going to Met. Teachers were very responsive and super friendly and fun.on the last day of the camp she brought home a beautiful painting that is now hanging on the wall.Posted on Ramoncito Robles Sebastian and the entire team have been entirely accommodating given the special needs of my daughter. They created a special curriculum for her and slowly introduced art to her in a meaningful way. My daughter is now more comfortable in art activities at school after working with Spark. I hope that others can see the value of their after-school and tailor made “pods”, especially families with kids with special needs looking for providers that are participating in OPWDD.
